Bandhavgarh Jungle Lodge
Bandhavgarh, a city in Madhya Pradesh’s Umaria district, gets its name from the Ramayana. It is thought that the Hindu god Ram gave it to his brother Lakshman after they had defeated Lanka. The name Bandhavgarh approximately translates to “Brother’s Fort.”
Rated as #1 hotel in Bandhavgarh National Park, Bandhavgarh Jungle Lodge’s history is inextricably entwined with the current fight for tiger conservation in India, which began in the 1960s when Shri Kailash Sankhala sounded the alarm about the terrible extent of tiger hunting that was threatening to exterminate this magnificent creature. Bandhavgarh is also home to an incredible variety of avifauna: over 200 of birds and over 80 varieties of butterflies. The lodge is built with 12 thatched, double-bed cottages around an interior courtyard.
