History of Kumarakom

The proper development of Kumarakom as we know it today began with the efforts of an English farmer, Alfred George Baker, who claimed and developed around 500 acres of land in this area. Kumarakom may be able to reach its full potential as a tourist destination as a result of his efforts. When the Bakers' estate fell into disrepair, the Taj Group restored it to its former glory.

Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary

If you enjoy nature, a visit to the Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary is a must. Alfred George Baker also designed this sanctuary. It spans 14 kilometers and is known for the lush greenery it provides as well as the migratory birds that flock here, including Waterfowl, Teal, Cuckoo, Egret, Heron, Owl, Brahminy Kite, Flycatcher, Lark, Parrot, and the Siberian Stork. Kumarakom's lush green paddy fields and coconut groves ensure that it remains a haven for these migratory birds.
