India’s first Biosphere Reserve

Bandipur National Park is widely regarded as one of India’s most beautiful and well-managed national parks. It is 80 kilometers from Mysore on the way to Ooty in Tamil Nadu.

It is India’s first Biosphere Reserve and is located in the Nilgiris. The park, which covers an area of 874 square kilometers, is home to a diverse range of endangered wildlife, including elephants, hornbills, deers, pythons, sloth bears, pythons, panthers, and others, as well as a plethora of teak and sandalwood trees.

Bandipur National Park in Karnataka was once the hunting grounds of the Maharaja of Mysore. Bandipur has a long history with tigers. It is one of thirty reserves identified throughout the country to save the tiger and its habitat, as well as one of the last refuges for the endangered Asiatic wild elephant. Aside from the two famous residents, this national park is home to a number of endangered species, including sloth bears, gaurs, Indian rock pythons, jackals, muggers, and four-horned antelopes. Sambar, mouse deer, chital, sloth bear, and the rare flying lizard can also be found in Bandipur.

Teak, rosewood, sandalwood, Indian laurel, Indian kino tree, giant clumping bamboo, clumping bamboo, and Grewia tibiae folia are among the timber trees found in Bandipur. There are many flowering and fruiting trees in the area, including the flame of the forest, Indian gooseberry, golden shower tree, and black cutch.

Despite the fact that these parks are in different states, they are frequently visited together due to their proximity. This wildlife sanctuary, which was recently designated as a tiger reserve, is located on the banks of the Moyar River and on the northwestern side of the Nilgiri hills. In addition to the famous elephant herds, tigers, leopards, gaurs, hyenas, sloth bears, sambars, mouse deer, and other wild animals can be found here.
