The city of Delhi actually consists of two parts: Old Delhi, a historic city in the north, and New Delhi, the capital of India. Delhi shares borders with the states of Uttar Pradesh in the east and with the state of Haryana in the remaining directions as it spans the Yamuna river, particularly on its western bank.
The populace of Delhi is likewise diversely religious. Hindus make up the vast majority of the population. The majority of minorities are Muslims, with smaller minorities belonging to Sikhs, Jains, Christians, and Buddhists.
Delhi residents enjoy eating, so visitors will be spoiled for choice among the variety of dishes available at every street corner. Delhi is a melting pot of various ethnicities, which is reflected in the cuisine of the city, from kebabs and tikkas to Chhole Bhature.
Until 1947, when India gained independence, Delhi was a British province led by a chief commissioner. It became a centrally administered state in 1952, but its status was changed to union territory under central government in 1956. In 1958, a unified corporation for both urban and rural areas was formed, and Delhi was designated as the national capital territory in 1991.
The India Gate, sometimes referred to as the All India War Memorial, is situated in New Delhi along the Rajpath. The largest war memorial in the nation, this 42-meter-tall historical building was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens. India Gate is also famous for hosting the Republic Day Parade every year.
An ancient fortification in the old Delhi region is called the Red Fort. It was built by Shah Jahan in 1639 as a result of the transfer of the capital from Agra to Delhi. Serving as the principal palace of the emperors of the Mughal dynasty, this spectacular piece of architecture receives its name from its invincible red sandstone walls.
Old Delhi's main road, Chandni Chowk, is one of the oldest markets in the city. It is a chaotic wholesale market with hawkers and porters on either side, providing a true medieval bazaar atmosphere. It is a significant historical location noted for the abundance of food and merchandise of every description. It offers a glimpse of the Fatehpuri Mosque and is located across from the Red Fort.
The largeest mosque in India was constructed by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan and is known as the "Masjid-I Jahan-Numa" or Jama Masjidi. On the holy day of Eid, the mosque welcomes thousands of pilgrims to perform a special Namaz in the morning. The Jama Masjid spans a little over 1200 square meters and can accommodate up to 25,000 people in the courtyard. It has three entrances, four towers, and two 40-meter-tall minarets.
The tomb of Humayun is the final resting place of the Mughal Emperor Humayun. It is India's first garden-tomb, located in the Nizamuddin East neighborhood of Delhi. This is well-known for its magnificent Mughal architecture with Persian influences. Humayun's Tomb was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1993 due to its magnificent design and illustrious history.
Qutub Minar is a victory tower or minaret located in the Qutub complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Mehrauli, Delhi. Qutub Minar is Delhi's second tallest monument, standing at 72.5 meters (238 feet). After defeating the last Hindu ruler of Delhi, Qutb Ud-Din-Aibak, founder of the Delhi Sultanate, began construction in 1192.
Akshardham Temple is a famous Hindu temple and spiritual-cultural complex that epitomizes Indian culture, spirituality, and architecture. It is dedicated to Lord Swaminarayan and is also known as Swaminarayan Akshardham. Akshardham is the World's Largest Comprehensive Hindu Temple, according to the Guinness Book of World Records. The Akshardham complex houses India's largest step well, which hosts a mesmerizing water show every evening.
Dilli Haat, designed to evoke the atmosphere of a traditional village fair, is a shopper's paradise, a foodie's haven, and the metro city's cultural magnet. The bazaar, a flamboyant mix of vibrant colors and diverse cultures, is located in the commercial heart of South Delhi, directly across from the INA Market.
Rajpath, which translates to "King's Way," is a ceremonial avenue in the heart of New Delhi. Rajpath connects the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Raisina Hill to the National Stadium on the opposite end, passing through Vijay Chowk and India Gate. Rajpath, also known as 'The Royal Road,' is surrounded on both sides by beautiful and lush green gardens, rows of trees, and canals.
