Deogarh is located in Rajasthan, about 80 miles north-east of Udaipur, on the borders of Marwar, Merwara, and Mewar. Deogarh is surrounded by Bhil villages, each with its own colorful way of life and festival celebrations. It is located at an elevation of approximately 2100 feet above sea level and is cooler than the rest of Rajasthan.

Deogarh is a well-known school of miniature painting, and some of the most beautiful Deogarh miniatures can be found in Rawat Sahib’s personal collection. This style of fresco can be found on the walls of Deogarh Fort.

The area is not only beautiful in nature, but it also has a rich history. Many dynasties had risen and fallen in this location. As a result, it provides the ideal balance of historical significance and natural beauty.

History of Deogarh

Deogarh Mahal, the main attraction in Deogarh, was built as a family residence in 1670 AD by Rawal Dwarka Das Ji. The family interacted with the villagers and hosted a number of banquets and celebrations within the Mahal's walls. The Maharana of Udaipur had recognized 'The Rawal,' the tribal chief of the sixteen umraos (feudal barons). Fiefdom of such feudal estates was conferred on nobles by the ruler in those days, either through blood relation or through some act of bravery.

Deogarh Mahal

Deogarh Mahal is a palace from the 17th century. The Deogarh Mahal is situated on a hilltop and offers breathtaking views of the lakes and Aravallis. The current owner, Rawal Nahar Singh, converted Deogarh Mahal into a heritage hotel about three years ago. His relatives who manage the hotel still occupy a portion of the Mahal.

Dashavatar Temple

The wonderful Dashavatar temple is another attraction in Deogarh. It is the first north India temple to have a shikhara or spire, though only the lower part of the shikhara remains today. It is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and dates back to the Gupta period when it was known as the Panchayatan temple.
