Munnar is a hill station in Kerala known for its tea estates, greenery, winding roads, blanket of mist, and viewpoints. It is located in the Idukki district.

It is one of the most sought after and visited travel destinations in the world, located at 1600 meters in the Western Ghats, and is especially popular among honeymooners.

The hill station is a tea and spice shopping paradise. A number of shops throughout the hill town sell cardamom, ginger, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, coffee, and a variety of homemade chocolates.

Munnar is divided into two sections: Old Munnar, which houses the tourist information office, and Munnar, which houses the bus station and the majority of the guest houses.

Munnar was once the summer retreat of the British government, and the main reason to visit is to explore the sprawling tea plantations and exotic flora and fauna. Its main attractions are the Eravikulam National Park, the Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary, and tea plantations. Munnar is also known for being the home of the endangered Nilgiri Tahr and the rare Neelakurinji flowers, which bloom once every 12 years (the next bloom is in 2030).

Munnar's cuisine includes all popular items from traditional Keralan cuisine. Everything is almost a staple here, from essentials like Idli, Vada, and Sambhar to the ubiquitous Banana chips. Aside from that, a variety of restaurants will offer menus with a wide range of cuisines and a plethora of options. You might also want to stop by the bazaar's early morning food stalls for a delicious breakfast. While you're here, don't forget to try the popular Cardamom tea.

Eravikulam National Park

The Eravikulam National Park (also known as Rajamalai Wildlife Sanctuary) is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located 45 minutes from Munnar. Some of the main animal species that can be seen here include elephants, Nilgiri langurs, Nilgiri martens, Atlas moths (the largest in the world), lion-tailed macaques, small-clawed otters, and a rare tiger or leopard.
