The park contains stunning vegetation and plantations, as well as verdant tropical and deciduous forest land. Reptiles found in Nagarhole National Park include the King Cobra, Krait, Indian Rock Python, Russel’s Viper, vine snake, tortoise, monitor lizard, and toads.
The name Nagarhole National Park is derived from the Kannada words "Naga" and "Hole," which mean snake and stream, respectively. This park, which once served as an exclusive hunting reserve for the rulers of Mysore, was established as a sanctuary in 1955. After expanding its area from 258 square kilometers to 643 square kilometers in 1974 by incorporating the reserve forests of Arkeri, Hatgat, and Nalkeri in Kodagu, it was designated as a national park in 1983.
Nagarahole, as an important Tiger Reserve in Karnataka, is a must-see national park for wildlife enthusiasts and photographers, as the forest safari offers a very high chance of seeing Bengal Tigers and Asiatic Elephants in their natural habitat. Nagrahole National Park also has a large population of Wild Dogs, Leopards, and Bears. Wild Gaurs, Wild Boars, Sambar Deer, Antelope, Spotted Deers, and several bird species are commonly seen herbivores.
The Kabini River, the Park's main source of water, surrounds the northern part of the park. The south-eastern part of the forest is usually dry and is a great place to go bird watching and looking for predators. The Kabini backwaters are the most famous feature of the park's central section. If you want to see elephants, Gaurs, and deers, this is the place to go! Streams, waterfalls, and valleys dominate the western landscape.
Trekking through the lush green forests of Nagarhole National Park is one of the best ways to enjoy the park. It is very likely that a trek through the park will provide an equally enjoyable bird watching experience.
Sandalwood, silver oak, rosewood, crocodile bark, Lagerstroemia lanceolata, Indian kino tree, Grewia tilaefolia, rosewood andaxlewood, Lagerstroemia microcarpa, kadam, cotton tree, Schleichera trijuga, ficus, Kydia calycina, Indian gooseberry and beechwood,horse nettles, tick clover, Helicteres species, lantana, golden shower tree, flame of the forest, teak and clumping bamboo are found in abundance here.
