Pench National Park, located in the Central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, is the 19th Project Tiger Reserve and has been one of the best-kept secrets among wildlife enthusiasts who have long been acquainted with and bedazzled by its immensely varied flora and fauna.

The Pench National Park is open to the public from October 1st to June 30th of each year. During the monsoon season, it is closed. The months of November to February are generally regarded as the best for visiting the park.

History of Pench National Park

Pench was designated a sanctuary in 1977 and a national park in 1983. It was designated as a tiger reserve in 1992 and renamed the Indira Priyadarshini National Park in 2002. The park's natural beauty was mentioned in Ain-i-Akbari, a 16th-century document chronicling Emperor Akbar's reign during the Mughal era. The Pench National Park is also the setting for Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book, so it is also known as Mowgli Land.

Pench National Park is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, as well as the Pench River, which flows through the park. This national park is ideal for tourists due to its tranquil surroundings of rich wooded forests and the occasional sightings of wild animals. More than 1300 species of dying and endangered medicinal plants have been identified in Pench National Park.

The Pench National Park is home to a variety of animal species, including the Royal Bengal Tiger, leopards, sloth bears, and chinkaras. Pench is also well-known for its avian population, both migratory and native. The Indian Pitta, Malabar Pied Hornbill, Grey-headed Fishing Eagle, and migratory species such as Bear-Headed Geese, Brahmini Duck, Coots, and others are among them.

Safari at Pench National Park

Morning hours are from 6 AM to 11 AM, and afternoon hours are from 3 PM to 6 PM. Light vehicles and 15-seater buses are permitted on the property. A day and night open jeep Jungle Safari is available. There is also the option of taking a 17-kilometer boat safari to explore Pench and the surrounding areas.
