A UNESCO World Heritage Site

Pondicherry, officially known as Puducherry and colloquially known as just Pondy, is one of India’s seven Union Territories, bordered by the southern state of Tamil Nadu.

The streets of Pondicherry’s French Quarter, also known as White Town, are lined with charming mustard-yellow colonial structures with bougainvillaea-encrusted walls. These are interspersed with quaint cafes and fashionable boutiques serving delectable French cuisine and beverages. Simply strolling down these streets can provide visitors with an insight into Pondicherry’s fairytale charm.

Until 1954, Pondicherry was a French colony. As a result, this city resembles a miniature version of France in India. Through its French civilisations, it exudes colonial, bohemian, and serene vibes. The houses are constructed in straight lines and adorned with Bougainvillea. The streets are extremely clean and tree-lined. People also adhere to French cultures and speak in French, either with an English or a South Indian accent.

Auroville is one of those towns that appears to be straight out of a novel. This township in the union territory of Pondicherry is based on the principles of peace, harmony, sustainable living, and 'divine consciousness,' which was the philosophy of Mirra Alfassa, the Mother of the Sri Aurobindo Society. This universal township was inaugurated on February 28, 1968, with the goal of making it a hub of continuous education and progress for all people, regardless of caste, creed, nationality, or race.
