Introduction

Experiential Journeys, in collaboration with our trusted local partner, offers deeply immersive and responsible travel across the length and breadth of India.

Whether it’s tracking tigers through ancient forests, drifting along sacred rivers, or sharing stories with artisans in remote villages, we believe travel should be meaningful for both the traveller and the host. With over two decades of experience and a shared ethos of conservation and cultural sensitivity, we specialise in crafting journeys that reflect India’s rich diversity whilst upholding the highest standards of sustainability and ethical travel.

What we do

Along with our trusted local partner, Experiential Journeys runs a wide array of sustainability initiatives that are grounded in conservation, community uplift and cultural preservation. Some of our key initiatives include:
  • Community driven tourism and wildlife conservation
We prioritise partnerships with TOFTigers-certified lodges and tourism operators that meet rigorous ecological, social and energy standards through the PUG and Footprint eco-certification process. Wherever possible, tourism revenues go back into forest restoration, education, local jobs and habitat protection.

  • Local welfare and community liaison
Aligned with TOFTigers’ best practices, we commit to long-term support of villages in and around protected areas. Tourism infrastructure is designed to generate employment, foster entrepreneurship, and fund community needs; thus improving education, health, nutrition and women’s empowerment.
  • Eco-conscious travel at all levels
Experiential Journeys operates with sustainability “as a way of life”; eliminating single-use plastics, managing waste, promoting clean energy micro‑grids, and minimizing footprints in fragile areas. Nature walks, village treks, cycling tours and small-group camps minimise impact and maximize connection.
  • Supporting species protection through tourism
Together, we channel tourism to support conservation of India’s iconic species. TOFTigers’ long-term campaign has helped double tiger numbers through ethical tourism and community involvement. We also support programs to safeguard snow leopards by funding community education, supporting anti-poaching patrols and empowering locals with livelihoods tied to wildlife protection.
  • Cultural and heritage revival through travel
We design experiences that support tribal festivals, arts, crafts, culinary traditions and fading cultural expressions across rural India. Travellers meet artisans, attend village festivals, enjoy traditional food, and take part in heritage preservation, ensuring that local communities benefit directly from these interactions.

What we don’t do

We don’t support or promote activities that compromise animal welfare or cultural dignity. This includes elephant rides, selfie tourism with big cats, or interactions with wildlife in captivity – activity that is unfortunately common in parts of India’s tourism circuit. While we understand the curiosity that draws travellers to such attractions, our responsibility is to educate, not enable. Instead, we encourage encounters that are respectful, unscripted, and conservation positive. Experiential Journeys, as well as our local partner, believes travel should be rooted in kindness, awareness, and integrity.

How we help / Contribute

Be part of the solution. The impact of your actions will be felt today as well as by future generations.
  • Reduce, reuse, recycle as much as you can during your travels. Every little bit helps.
  • Reduce food and plastic waste wherever you can.
  • Conserve water and electricity. Indulge when you need to, be conservative at other times.

  • Offset the emissions from your journey by signing up for a Carbon Offset Programme.
  • Help support local economies and opt for sustainable activities during your travels.
  • If you are able to, leave a place better than you found it. Even a little gesture like passing on knowledge is a contribution that makes a great impact.
  • We have multiple sustainability projects going on at any given time. You can partner with us on a project (or more) and we would be glad to have you onboard.
  • Recommend us to volunteers. Travellers on a career break, taking a student gap-year or those who are keen on internships are welcome to work closely with our field conservation units which operate in partnership with local communities.

There are many more ways in which you can help, so let us know if you would like to be more involved and we’d be happy to point you in the right direction!

Our sustainability efforts are guided by our internal policy, Eco C‑R‑E‑A‑M, which stands for:
Eco – Community – Responsibility – Environment – Awareness – Management.

Key pillars of this approach include:

  • Community Responsibility
We prioritise local hiring and skills development, source products and services from village based enterprises, and partner with indigenous communities on responsible tourism initiatives. This ensures that the economic benefit stays within the regions we travel through.
  • Wildlife and the Environment
Inspired by TOFTigers’ best practices, we actively support eco-certified lodges and promote ethical wildlife tourism. We educate travellers on animal welfare, discourage activities that exploit wildlife, and contribute to habitat preservation in India’s most fragile ecosystems.
  • Waste Management
In line with TOFTigers’ sustainability goals, we maintain a strong plastic-free ethos, compost organic waste where possible, and work with suppliers who commit to reducing packaging, recycling and responsible disposal.
  • Energy Efficiency
We promote the use of solar energy, low-emission fuels, and traditional cooking methods that reduce environmental strain. These initiatives are especially evident in camps, remote homestays, and eco-lodges across India.

Together with our trusted local partner, we’re working to ensure that tourism is not just sustainable, but regenerative. Our goal is to support a future where communities thrive, wildlife roams free, and India’s cultural and natural heritage remains vibrant for generations to come.
