The Blue City<\/h1>\r\n

Jodhpur, the former capital of the Marwar region, is popularly known as “the Blue City” because its blue walls and houses appear completely blue from above.<\/span><\/h5>\r\n

Jodhpur is best known for its temples, lakes, and snacks, with the magnificent Mehrangarh Fort serving as the main draw. Jodhpur’s magic is found in the streets of the old city, which circles the mighty Mehrangarh. Jodhpur attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors from all over the world. History of Jodhpur<\/h3>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Rao Jodha, the Rajput chief of the Rathore clan, founded the city of Jodhpur. The Rajput clan to which he belonged was thought to be Lord Rama's successors.\r\nJodhpur was situated on the well-known silk trade route that linked India and various parts of Central Asia. Jodhpur was always a land of the rich, defined by the people who lived there's endless wealth and royal grandeur.<\/p>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\r\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>

The Blue City<\/h3>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Essentially, the houses in Jodhpur are painted blue, giving the city a sky or sea-like appearance when the sun shines on it. This tradition was apparently started by the Brahmins, who began to paint their houses to distinguish the upper class (them) from the rest of the people. The rest of the population then blindly followed suit.<\/p>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\r\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>

Mehrangarh Fort<\/h3>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Mehrangarh, also known as Mehran Fort, was built in 1459 in Jodhpur by Rao Jodha and is one of the largest forts in the country. It is built on top of a 410-foot-high hill and is surrounded by massive walls. One of Jodhpur's most recognizable forts, it has appeared in numerous Hollywood and Bollywood productions, including The Lion King, The Dark Knight Rises, and the most recent - Thugs of Hindostan.<\/p>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\r\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>

Umaid Bhawan Palace, voted the Best Hotel in the World, is also a major tourist attraction in Jodhpur. Apart from being a heritage hotel, it is also a museum and the home of the current owner's Royal Family, Raja Gaj Singh. Jaswant Thada, a magnificent marble cenotaph monument that also serves as a mausoleum for the Marwar kings, is located in the royal state of Jodhpur. The memorial was built in 1899 in honour and memory of Maharaja Jaswant Singh II by his son Maharaja Sardar Singh and is still used as cremation grounds by the Marwar Royal Family. The stunning structure is made of intricately carved marble that contrasts sharply with the red steps leading up to the entrance.<\/p>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\r\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>
