History Of Khajuraho<\/h3>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

The Khajuraho temples were built one at a time by Chandela rulers over a hundred years. The temples were first mentioned in the writings of Abu Rihan-ul Biruni towards the end of the 11th century. The temple complex grew throughout the 12th century and eventually fell into the hands of the Sultan of Delhi, Qutb-Uddin Aibak, after the Chandela rulers were deposed. Because of their deserted locations, some of the temples have been vandalized and disfigured over the years.<\/p>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\r\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>

The Khajuraho temple complex is divided into two sections based on their orientation: the Western Group of Temples and the Eastern Group of Temples. The Western group is the more well-known of the two because it has the largest temple, Kandariya Mahadeo Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva's glory.\r\nThe temples dedicated to Hindu gods and goddesses are mostly found in the Western group.\r\nThe Eastern Group is primarily of four Jain temples dedicated to the worship of the Jain Tirthankaras: Parasvanath, Adinath, Shantinath, and Ghantai.<\/p>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\r\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>

This is a major reason for the large number of tourists who visit Khajuraho. This site is best known for a series of Hindu and Jain temples built side by side by the rulers of the Chandela dynasty between 950 and 1050 AD.
