The Misty Mountain Range<\/strong><\/h1>\r\n
Located towards the northern end of the central highlands of Sri Lanka, adjacent to Kandy, is the beautiful mountain range known as Knuckles.<\/span><\/h5>\r\n

Viewed from certain locations in Kandy, 5 of the 9 peaks of the range resemble the knuckles of a clenched fist, hence the name given by early British surveyors. Innumerable trails of varying difficulties wind their way through the mountains, making it popular among those who love the outdoors.<\/span><\/h5>\r\nThe range features rugged mountain peaks, stunning valleys, grasslands, crystal clear streams and spectacular waterfalls. An area with high biodiversity, it is included in the UNESCO natural world heritage list due to over 30% of the country\u2019s endemic trees, shrubs, and herbs being found there. Named after the British surveyor who explored the region, Corbett's Gap opens out to breathtaking views that stretch out across several hundred kilometres. Meemure<\/h3>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

This quaint village is so remote that it has no cellular coverage. Blessed with amazing scenery and views all around, the area around it is popular with hikers, campers and nature lovers. Legends call this tabletop peak Ravana Thenna (Ravana\u2019s place) and say that it was used as a landing pad by the demon king Ravana for his flying vehicle. The current name Manigala (Time Mountain) is attributed to mediaeval days when the shadow of the mountain was used to tell time.<\/p>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\r\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>

Rumoured to be Ravana\u2019s final resting place, Yahangala (Bed-rock) is swathed in legends and is a wonderfully scenic location that is popular with hikers. However locals warn that visitors must have pure intentions in their hearts during the climb or else risk the wrath of Gale Bandara, the local deity.<\/p>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\r\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>

A trek of 2.5 kilometres is all it takes to get to the breathtaking viewpoint up Riverstone Peak. The hike is quite scenic and goes past forests, rivers, and waterfalls.
