It was unfortunately plundered and razed to the ground during a Chola invasion during the 14th century. After being covered in whitewash, the white colour of the 80-foot tall structure lent itself to comparisons to milk, resulting in it being known as \u2018Kiri\u2019 (milk) \u2018vehera\u2019 (stupa).<\/p>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\r\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div><div class=\"item\">\r\n\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"image\">\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"ratio ratio-37x24\">\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.experientialjourneys.com.au\/sri-lanka\/2022\/11\/polonnaruwa-vatadage-770x550.jpg\" alt=\"polonnaruwa-vatadage-770x550.jpg\"><\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"details\">\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h3>Polonnaruwa Vatadage<\/h3>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Vatadages are constructed to safeguard stupas, but this particular one is significant as it was built by King Parakramabahu to protect the relic of the tooth of the Buddha.
