Baa Atoll
Baa Atoll – UNESCO Reefs and Manta Encounters
Baa Atoll combines protected reef systems with globally significant marine biodiversity.
Baa Atoll, administratively also designated as Baa Atoll, lies approximately 120 kilometres northwest of Malé and comprises more than 75 islands, including around 15 resort islands and several inhabited communities. In 2011, it was declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in recognition of its ecological significance. Its lagoon systems, outer reef walls and coral shelves support some of the most concentrated Maldives Marine Life encounters in the archipelago.
