Vaavu Atoll
Vaavu Atoll – Deep Channels and Open Reefs
Vaavu Atoll is defined by strong channel systems and low island density.
Vaavu Atoll, administratively designated as Vaavu Atoll, lies approximately 65 kilometres south of Malé and comprises around 20 islands, including five resort islands and several inhabited communities. Known for deep reef channels and outer wall systems, Vaavu Atoll supports structured marine corridors shaped by tidal movement, distinguishing it from the more lagoon-dominant atolls of the central Maldives.
